Hoffman, Ison & Greene, Inc. traces its history to the great-great-grandfather of one of the agencys principals. William Hoffman founded Hoffmans Insurance Agency in 1847. He was in the hardware business, I believe, before he opened the insurance agency, said Jouett Hoffman in a 1980 interview.. Its my understanding he made many trips to Philadelphia. They insured everything from sleighs to houses, businesses -- what have you. Hoffman, Ison & Greene, Inc. was formed on January 1, 1993 when Hoffmans Insurance Agency, Inc. and L. Greene & Associates, Inc. merged. The Greene agency was started by Lizzie Prewitt Coleman in the late Nineteenth century. The agency marked its 150th anniversary in 1997 and is the oldest business in Montgomery County.
The agencys principals are Floyd Jack Ison, J. Miller Hoffman, and Ray A. Robertson -- Robertson having purchased the interest of H. Lewis Greene in late 1996. Their insurance careers began in 1962, 1981 and 1986 respectively. Lewis Greene remains with the firm on a "semi-retired" basis. Donald E. Bentley joined the firm in 1997 to head up the Life Insurance and Employee Benefits division. He has recently been joined by Allison Faulkner. Brenda Berryman and Tracey Hendrix are responsible for personal lines customer service and Deborah Downs for commercial lines. Paula Pfister is the agency bookeeper.

Kentucky Department of Insurance
The Financial Standards and Examination Division's main objective is to ascertain whether or not each insurance company and health maintenance organization authorized to do business in Kentucky is financially sound and statutorily solvent in accordance with Kentucky Insurance Laws and Regulations.
This is accomplished through financial examinations, analysis and administrative oversight. A team of qualified field examiners perform timely, detailed financial examinations of domestic insurers no less than every three years, and participate in examination of foreign companies which do substantial business in Kentucky. Financial analysts and early warning analyst perform extensive analysis of quarterly and annual financial statements and all other financial filings made with this Department. The Company Admissions and Administration Section is responsible for the maintenance of records and filings of approximately 1600 companies authorized to do business in Kentucky. These records include, but are not limited to, company admission applications, charter files , amendments to Certificate of Authority, and annual and quarterly statements. This section also gives administrative support to Financial Examinations and Analysis Sections.
