American Bank of Albania he American Bank of Albania (ABA) was established in 1998 by the Albanian American Enterprise Fund (AAEF) and is currently the third largest bank in Albania according to customer deposits.
The American Bank of Albania was established by the Albanian American Enterprise Fund (AAEF), a private non-political, non-profit corporation established pursuant to the US Government Act for the support for East European Democracy of 1989. The United States government provided the capital for the AAEF through a USD$30 million grant. The AAEF, which established the American Bank of Albania in 1998, has as a primary goal to promote Albanian private sector development.
The American Bank of Albania (ABA) scope is to offer Albanian and foreign citizens high quality and high security services, to restore the trust of the Albanian citizens in the Banking System after the economic breakdown caused by pyramid schemes and help the modernization of the Banking procedures. The Bank was approved by the Bank of Albania and got its license on August 10, 1998, and began operations on September 24, 1998. Since its inauguration, it has pioneered many traditional and innovative products and has grown to be the third largest bank in Albania among the 17 existing at the moment, according to customer deposits.
On June 14, 2004, ABA's Greek Branch opened its doors in Athens to ensure that members of the Albanian community that live and work in Greece, also benefit from the banks services, offered by personnel that can communicate with them in their own language.
On December 2006, AAEF agreed to sell 80% of the shares to Intesa Sanpaolo Bank. The agreement was finalized on June 29, 2007, and since then ABA is part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.

BIA - Banka Italo Shqiptare The Italian Albanian Bank is the first private bank founded on 1992 according to a special law. The paid-up capital amount to USD 15.500.000. The Head Office is located in Tirana. The first branch has been opened on 1999 in Durres, followed by the branch of Vlora on 2002. On 2004 a new branch has been opened in Shkodra.

Emporiki Bank The Emporiki Bank (Greek: Εμπορική Τράπεζα) is a Greek bank. Its headquarters is in Athens, and the bank has hundreds of branches across Greece, as well as operations in a number of other countries. The bank is one of the 500 largest banks in the world.
In August, 2006, the french bank Crédit Agricole, acquired 72% of its capital and now controls the bank.

National Bank of Greece (Tirana Branch) The National Bank of Greece (NBG; Greek: Εθνική Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος) (NYSE: NBG, LSE: NBGA) is the oldest and largest commercial bank in Greece and heads the strongest financial group in the country. It boasts a dynamic profile internationally, particularly in Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. It owns subsidiaries in over 18 countries, including Bulgaria, Cyprus, Egypt, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, The Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Switzerland, and Turkey.
Founded in 1841 as a commercial bank, NBG enjoyed the right to issue banknotes until the establishment of the Bank of Greece in 1928. Today, after recent acquisitions in South Eastern Europe the Group's network overseas includes 868 units. Piraeus Bank Piraeus Bank Group, is a Greek bank founded in 1916, that went through a period of state ownership and management (1975-1991) before it was privatised in December 1991. Procredit Bank Albania Procredit Bank is a member of the Procredit Group, which owns majority stakes in 19 countries on the continents of The Americas, Africa, and Europe. Procredit Bank is the name of several of the Group's banks in the Eastern European region.
Raiffeisen Albania The Raiffeisen Bank is currently the largest bank in Albania, with more than 60% of all retail deposits and the largest branch network.
It was originally known as Banka e Kursimeve (Savings Bank of Albania), but following its acquisition by Raiffeisen Zentralbank (RZB) during 2004 it was rebranded Raiffeisen Bank. Since the acquisition, Raiffeisen has implemented retail lending and services, starting with ATM services and debit cards, and later additional retail activities. The bank is also building its corporate and SME businesses.
Tirana Bank Tirana Bank is the first private Bank which has started operations in Albania. It was established on 1996 and its growth during this period has been tremendous after creating a very wide network throughout Albania, actually with 36 Branches. Nowadays, after 10 years in the Albanian market, this bank is well-consolidated and offers a very wide range of products and services according to its clients needs.
